We celebrated my daughter’s wedding here, and everything was perfect apart from the weather. Even the rain couldn’t spoil the day. Lindsey deserves a big shout out for keeping us calm that morning and taking all the stress off the bride. Nothing was a problem for her, she’s a superstar. The bar staff were first class too, and brought their own energy to the evening. I can’t thank everyone enough.

Everything felt easy on the day, and we could just enjoy being guests at our own wedding. Emerald, Aimee and the whole team kept things running smoothly and were calm, supportive and ready to help from the planning lead-up through to the wedding itself. We can’t thank them enough for making it so special. Faultless from start to finish.

The food was okay, though not up to the standard I’d seen others mention, and the rest of the waiting staff were fine. The manager, whose name I don’t know, was officious and rude, repeatedly saying the table was needed later. We’d booked lunch for ten, though one guest couldn’t make it after working a night shift. Spending nearly £400 and then being hurried along left a bad taste. There, said it.

The river Doon views are lovely, and the staff were friendly and seated us promptly for our booked afternoon tea. Tea or coffee arrived quickly with the sandwiches, scones and cakes, plus a separate plate of hot items. The black pudding bonbon and pulled beef wrap were excellent, but the soup was so bland we had to ask what flavour it was. The sandwiches, egg, pickle and ham, tasted good, though the bread had dried out and was starting to curl at the edges. Our scones came with butter, individual jars of preserves and a little pot of clotted cream, but the cream was runny. The waitress swapped the marmalade preserves when we asked. The cakes included a very good mousse, carrot cake, millionaire shortbread and bitter chocolate tray bake. The shortbread had a lovely thick toffee layer, though there was a large fingerprint in it, and it was replaced once we pointed it out. There was a lot to like, but the food quality let the afternoon tea down.
