The cottage changed hands in summer 2023. We’ve taken note of the problems mentioned below and have already dealt with some of them: the lilies are gone, the Wi-Fi works, and the cottage is being kept very clean. Sorting the front windows is a bigger job. Some of the reviews are from quite a while ago. We had to add a rating to post this update.

The cottage may be lovely, but it felt badly neglected. I paid £290 for two nights and a day, and found the place freezing and filthy. We couldn't eat there because everything was so dirty. The toaster looked as if it had years of crumbs in it, and the kitchen sink was full of long black hairs. I had to scrub the bath before I could bathe my son. There were at least 20 dead flies on the lounge windowsill in October, and hairs on the floors, rugs and cushions. I could go on. I wouldn't recommend it.

The cottage was clean and had a homely feel, and Bakewell was easy to reach, about a ten-minute walk up the hill. It’s opposite the church. Shame the jacuzzi bath didn’t work. I’d have given five stars if there’d been Wi-Fi.

A lovely cottage in a great spot, though the road noise was quite a lot. Only two of the front-facing windows had secondary glazing, which made it noticeable.

We had a fantastic week in Bakewell, and the village and Peak District were beautiful. The people were friendly and we had everything we needed. The cottage itself was okay, but the dining area felt like a morgue, so we couldn’t use it. The lilies were awful, and their smell spread through the whole house. Also, that hill back up from the village centre was a killer.
