The gluten-free menu had plenty of choice, and my steak burger was absolutely delicious. My other half ordered one too and really enjoyed it. We booked for teatime, and from the moment we arrived the staff made everyone feel welcome. They even brought our dachshund a bowl of water and some sausage, and took good care of the other dog in the room as well. We also got to see how huge the fish was, wow! A real treat if you're in the area.
We came back to the Plas yn Dre after about 6 or 7 years and had another fantastic meal. This time we were a family of seven celebrating my 70th birthday, and Dan, Thomas and the lovely staff looked after us so well. The welcome was warm, the food and service were absolutely excellent, and there was cask beer too, which pleased me as a CAMRA member. Come to Bala, and make sure you eat here. We’ll have to return.
We really enjoyed our stay at Plas yn Dre. The room was warm, comfortable and very clean, with everything we needed, and it was serviced daily. The staff were professional and courteous, but also great fun, and nothing felt like too much trouble. Thanks to the chef and team for the wonderful food, especially the vegetarian and vegan choices. Plas yn Dre is a real gem in Bala's crown, and we'd highly recommend it. Possibly one of the best hotels we've stayed in, and I know that's a big claim.
We never want to book here again. My partner and I had arranged a weekend at this “family-run” hotel, but after a missed miscarriage became life-threatening, I was rushed to hospital earlier that week and again on the Friday we were meant to travel. While I was receiving treatment, my partner contacted the hotel. We weren't asking for our money back, just credit to rebook after I recovered. They refused and told us to claim through travel insurance for a UK stay. The response to such a traumatic week and a life-threatening emergency was cold, inflexible and completely lacking in empathy. Policies are one thing, humanity another. For a business that proudly calls itself “family-run,” that absence of compassion is staggering. I'd strongly advise others to think carefully before booking.
It was a cold February evening when we stopped in with the family on our way back from Chester. Dan gave un a lovely welcome and seated us in a surprisingly roomy, warm restaurant. He looked after us really well, and the food was interesting and yummy. The children enjoyed their meals from the kids menu too. We had a great visit and will come back.
