The golf course is world class, with sunset views towards Ailsa Craig. It’s a historic Scottish railway golf resort hotel that’s had a comprehensive Trump six star diamond award makeover. Everything was immaculately kept, with great service, a spa, and plenty of food choices.

The golf course won us all over, though its difficulty caught us by surprise. We had unbelievable weather, and the clean, shallow water at the beach felt cold, as you’d expect in Scotland. The hotel itself was stunning and the location beautiful, with service and attention to detail on another level. It was an expensive weekend, but the memories are priceless x

The staff made us feel very welcome, especially at breakfast, which was delicious. We also really enjoyed the fish and chips in the club house. The steak in the main building was very tough, though, and while the soup and afternoon tea were nice, they weren't up to the standard we expected. Still, we had a beautiful stay.

We stayed in a villa with twin beds, a bath and a shower, plus a big TV with Sky Sports. Breakfast had something for every taste, and the staff were brilliant, nothing seemed too much trouble. I didn't use the Spa, but we went for a tour and it looked fab. A great stay and I'd recommend it for a special weekend.

The Bruce course is a real challenge, with stunning sea views on some holes, and probably Scotland's best book-and-walk-on course. The spa stays quiet, the hot tub is actually hot, and there are no hidden costs like at many hotels. The facilities are brilliant, but the staff are what make the place, so friendly and willing to accommodate almost anything. I've stayed in plenty of five star hotels, and this is the first in Europe where I've left with absolutely no issues. The best hotel I've stayed in so far. What a place, I'll definitely be back.
