We went back on our last evening for dinner, partly to thank Allan for how kind everyone had been. My husband and I had first dropped in for lunch during a week in Ballater at the end of September 2025, after the local bookshop said the food was fantastic. They were right: lunch was delicious and reasonably priced, which can be hard to find in the UK. Allan, Fiona and Fergie were especially lovely. They suggested some less obvious local places to visit, and every one turned out to be a 10/10. We wouldn’t have found them ourselves. We loved this place and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend. @Allan- Go Pack Go!

Right by the river, and most shops are an easy walk away. The staff are a small team, but they were helpful and made getting checked in simple.

The little single room was just as described and suited me perfectly. Breakfast was great, and I only wish I’d been there for dinner too. There’s a good bar with a beer garden as well. It’s a lovely family-run hotel doing exactly what it sets out to do.

A small kindness made a huge difference to my day. The woman working the bar on Sunday August 24th 2025 suggested a different way around the steep forest stretch of the Deeside Way. It saved me about an hour, for at most a couple of miles less cycling. I didn’t get her name, but please pass along my thanks if you see this. The bar is nice and it’s a good place to get dinner too.

The menu had a good range, so there was plenty to suit different tastes. Our food came quickly, piping hot, tasty and very good value. We stopped for lunch on the way home from a weekend away, and the clean, modern restaurant made a nice impression. The man behind the bar was also serving tables, and he was friendly and efficient. We’ll definitely return.
