The room was small, just as I like it, with the bed facing a window that fills the wall. I could wake up to the sea or fall asleep to the waves, with that iconic stretch of land curving around Barmouth in the distance. It was clean and ready when I arrived, and the ensuite bathroom was clean too. There was plenty of tea and coffee, plus hot chocolate, which I really liked. I didn't see any staff during my stay. The check-in and check-out were different from anywhere else I've stayed, and I preferred the arrangement. Other reviews describe the hosts as friendly and helpful. For me, it was more that if you don't bother them, they don't bother you. I'm sure they would have helped if I'd needed it, but I managed both check-in and check-out without seeing or speaking to anyone. I won't share the details of that part. I'd stay here again if I return to Barmouth.

The room was tired, with cobwebs and peeling wallpaper, and the photos had been creative at best. On arrival I saw how poor the hotel was. There was nobody at reception, and the phone just rang behind the locked door. If we'd arrived earlier, we would have left. To add insult to injury, a notice advertised booking direct for £35 per head. We paid over £100 for what felt like a £70 room, and that's being generous. I never saw anyone, and haven't managed to raise the issue with Booking.com. I'd avoid it. There are much better places in Barmouth at similar prices.

We had such a great time last year that coming back was an easy decision. The rooms are clean and comfy, and breakfast is amazing, the best scrambled eggs ever! The owners are lovely, friendly and welcoming. It feels like a little home away from home. Can't wait to return.

We've made Crystal House our annual holiday stay for the last four years. Steve and Katie are lovely people who always go above and beyond to make us comfortable. Breakfast is delicious every time, and there's always plenty of coffee. If you want somewhere with a genuine homey feel, this is it.

Katie and Steve were such friendly, welcoming hosts, and we'd definitely look forward to staying again. We had a wonderful week at Crystal House, with a superb breakfast, a pleasant room and comfortable beds. I slept really well. Thank you!
