Morwendon House

My husband planned this as a surprise destination, and it was absolutely worth the money. I'd recommend Morwendon to friends and family and would definitely return. The house is well placed, just a two-minute drive from Barmouth, with the sea to the west and Snowdonia National Park to the east. There's plenty to do and see, though it gets busy during school holidays. We stayed in the Garden Room, which is the one for guests with a dog. It's really a suite: a bedroom with a king-size bed and a living room with a sofa. The bathroom is small but worked perfectly for what I needed. I'm disabled, and the ledge to sit on made showering much easier. There's also a patio outside with chairs, a table and a parasol, and the views from there are amazing. I'd never visited this part of Wales before, and I'll definitely come back. Kate and Rob couldn't do enough for us. I had to spend one day in the room, and they brought extra coffee and milk for the day. It was fresh milk, not UHT, which was a lovely surprise. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, with cereal, fruit, yogurt and juice, plus tea or coffee and a full English if you wanted one. I had scrambled eggs, the best I've ever had, and they also had bread I could eat for dietary reasons.

The rooms at the very top of the house on the third floor are small and clearly an afterthought, though you're told this before booking them. The house is still within walking distance of Barmouth if you don't mind about 35 minutes on foot, with a short stretch along the main road, then a steep hill, and most of the way along the promenade. You can cycle it too, which gives fairly easy access to the Mawddach cycle trail, or take the train instead. There are shared spaces for guests, including an outdoor patio seating area and an indoor lounge, both with lovely bay views. The owners bring fresh milk each day and seem happy to go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. They were friendly, and the views were fantastic. Breakfasts were delicious and filling.

Our room was beautiful, and the view was out of this world. Rob and Kate were lovely and gave us friendly service. My girlfriend's combination lock jammed, so she couldn't get her things out. Rob kindly cut the lock off. We can't wait to come back. Thanks for a wonderful time.

The owners made us feel welcome straight away, and the prices were good. Our room was tidy and clean, with a lovely beach view from the window. Breakfast was filling too.
