Barnham Broom Hotel, Golf & Spa

The spa was a real highlight for our group of eight. The staff there were attentive and made the atmosphere feel calm and welcoming. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and well looked after, and the restaurant and golf teams were friendly and helpful throughout. Breakfast and dinner service was good too. Dinner was less consistent across the two nights, even though we ordered from the same set menu. The first night the portions felt small and weren't quite satisfying, though the penne pasta was very tasty. On the second night there was much more food, which we appreciated, but the pasta had changed to macaroni and seemed like a slight drop in quality and presentation. We had a generally pleasant stay at this clean, relaxing golf and spa hotel. More consistency in both the serving sizes and how the restaurant dishes are prepared would improve the experience.

The dairy-free food was thoughtful and delicious, rather than feeling like a poor substitute, and they catered very well for dietary needs. We couldn't finish it all, but they were happy to box up the leftovers for us. We had afternoon tea in the Valley Bar at Barnham Broom, with a lovely view across the countryside and golf course. It felt relaxed and chilled. The receptionist greeted us warmly, and Amara was friendly, efficient and attentive. She also made an excellent almond latte, better than most non-dairy ones I've had elsewhere. The light, fluffy scones came warm when we were ready for them, a lovely touch. There was even a sand timer so you could brew your tea to the strength you like.

We had an easy trip into Norwich, then came back to a peaceful setting among the countryside and golf course. The hotel is conveniently close to the city, and the pool, sauna and jacuzzi were enjoyable. The food was beautifully cooked and presented, and the waiting staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Our rooms were spotless and very well appointed. Three friends and I booked a short break to celebrate our combined 70th birthdays and spend time together somewhere comfortable and easy to reach. Sheila was accommodating and friendly when I made the booking, and the package she put together seemed competitive and covered what we wanted. One small drawback was having to go outside to get from the rooms to reception. Fine in good weather, but it could be awkward in pouring rain. Still, the hotel is lovely and the staff even lovelier. The afternoon tea was good, and the spa team were superb for my husband's birthday spa day. Their customer service was exceptional. In particular, claire and Eva made the day extra special with their magic hands during the treatments.
