Both rooms I stayed in, Granta above the bar and Wykeham in the building behind the main pub, were clean, modern, and comfortable. They had all the comforts I expected while keeping the feel of a traditional pub building. The accommodation was easily the best I’ve had in England. I was in the area for a couple of weeks, so I got to try plenty from the restaurant menu and bar. Every meal was outstanding, with good ingredients cooked well and put together with care. The restaurant, rooms, and staff were consistently excellent throughout my stay. Emma and her team have made a lovely place to eat and stay. Thank you.

After an emergency evacuation from our home because of an insured event, my pregnant self, my two young children, and our dog stayed at The Three Hills while we were passing through. I booked the bridal suite by phone at the last minute and paid £300/2 nights. I left our dog in his bed in the room for a few hours while I took the children out. He’s used to being left while we’re at work or out for the day, and because of his breed he sleeps most of the day. The housekeeper let him out and walked him, though that wasn’t needed. I wasn’t comfortable with her taking him, but didn’t want to make a fuss. When I checked out, I was told there was a dog charge. It hadn’t been mentioned when I booked, so I said that seemed reasonable to query. Then Emma sent an abusive email with degrading remarks about how I treat my dog. She said the housekeeper walking him justified the undisclosed charge, accused me of harming him, and said I should be reported to the RSPCA for leaving him happily asleep in a hotel room for a few hours. I’m disgusted by how I was treated. The hotel itself was otherwise nice, and I’d planned to return, but this conduct from employees was inexcusable. I’ve updated this review because the accommodation owner breached GDPR and made defamatory comments in response to my original review. I told the housekeeper the dog was in the room in case she was wary of dogs, I didn’t ask her about leaving him. It wasn’t 9am after breakfast, since the pub doesn’t serve breakfast on Thursdays. I’d taken the children and dog to Linton for breakfast and got back in the late morning. I expect the owner’s defamatory and unsubstantiated response below, which also breaches GDPR, to be removed from the listing.

The halibut was full of flavour and cooked just right. The chef came out to ask how we’d liked the food, a lovely personal touch. We had dinner this evening with one gluten-free guest, and there were clear gluten-free and dairy-free alternatives on the menu, so we all had plenty to choose from. The place looked lovely and felt warm and relaxed, and the service was first-class. A brilliant evening, highly recommended.

The main came with a good salad, but the hake itself was plain and tasteless without tartare sauce. I’d asked for sauce with it, but that wasn’t available. The fondant potatoes were disappointing too, with not even a hint of butter. I was sorry there was no halibut on the menu, since reviews say it’s very good. The salmon starter was three 1 inch strips with beetroot and horseradish sauce. It tasted okay, but the amount and quality felt underwhelming. It was all just okay, and I expected better. The chef did come around during the meal, but I didn’t want to spoil the evening with my comments. I can’t recommend it and am not in a hurry to go back.
