The room was spotless, but that was about the only positive. It was sweltering, with no air conditioning or other climate control, and the room phone didn’t work. I couldn’t find any WiFi access details either, so I never managed to get online during my one-night stay. The shower was worse: after about three minutes, the water dwindled to a trickle and then stopped completely. I was glad I hadn’t planned to wash my hair. It felt like a place to sleep for a night and nothing more. I’d expected better from a Best Western.

Chris was brilliant, looking after me from check-in right through to checkout. There was a great choice of gluten-free food, and my evening meal was gorgeous. Breakfast let things down a bit because the pancakes were hard, but otherwise I can’t complain. I stayed one night and will definitely be back. Thank you.

The room was spotless, comfortable and nicely presented, and we were pleased to get a complimentary upgrade. Staff made the stay especially enjoyable. Chris, Nicole and Shannon were warm, attentive and always happy to help, and the bar team created a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with great service. We had a lovely stay at the Hilcroft Hotel, from arrival to the end. Highly recommend! Kim Liz Jim and Neil

We only booked for one night, but the quality was better than I expected for the price. The staff were very good, and we had a lovely evening meal in the spacious, well-appointed bar and restaurant. I’d recommend staying here.

The restaurant’s Senior menu is three courses for £15, and I’ve eaten here several times. Kyllie in the restaurant is amazing. It’s also a beautiful setting for a wedding, with great food and service from the staff.
