The Gables

We stayed in May 26 for one night before flying from nearby Edinburgh airport. The complimentary full breakfast was wonderful, and the owner/hosts were very kind and accommodating. Our clean, comfortable room had two twin beds and a spacious bathroom with a nice shower. There is on-site parking. Two bus routes go to Edinburgh: the X18 stops right outside the guest house, while the X27 is a short walk away and takes longer. I recommend it.

The hosts were very welcoming, the room was comfortable and breakfast was very nice. It stayed quiet at night even though the B&B is on a main road. The shower pressure could be better, and the car park is small, so it might be a squeeze when busy. Still, I'd definitely stay again next time I'm in Bathgate.

My husband and I only stayed briefly because we had to leave early, so we couldn't have much breakfast. The host was lovely about it and gave us fruit for the journey. The room was fairly basic but comfortable, clean and tidy, with the usual tea and coffee. We got lucky with the weather, but the room was quite hot. There's no AC, which is normal in the UK, so that's more of a general gripe than a complaint about this hotel. We found the local travel information lacking. The nearest train station is a distance away, and we didn't know whether the bus took cash or card, so weren't sure about trying it. Uber is almost nonexistent around there, and we didn't know which local taxi numbers to call or how to tell if a taxi firm served our area. We also couldn't work out whether parking at the local station was free. That last bit is the station's issue, not the hotel's. In the end we walked, which took a good 20-25 minutes. The train into Edinburgh was straightforward enough.

Mary should be proud of her B&B. The rooms were spotless and had all the basics, the bed was very comfortable, and breakfast was amazing. Absolutely great value for money, top marks. Another plus, it's only 20 minutes from Edinburgh Airport.
