Charlcombe Inn

My friend and I had a lovely breakfast there this morning. The staff and chef were friendly and helpful, and we had a long chat while hearing their funny stories about running the place. It was an excellent visit, and the entertainment made it even better. Thanks, we’ll definitely be back soon x

On our way back from Cardiff, we stopped at the Charlcombe today, Sunday. We both had roast beef with cauliflower cheese on the side. The beef was incredibly tender and cooked just right, and there was a tasty selection of vegetables with a good Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The server, whose name I didn’t catch, was friendly and made us feel very welcome. Excellent service and meal. We’ll definitely return.

After our meal, we went for a walk in the countryside, and the location was cracking. We were celebrating my Mum’s birthday on Christmas Eve, and the whole occasion was memorable. Nigel was fantastic with the booking, and being able to pre-order for our large party made the day much easier. Even though it was busy, the team were exceptionally kind and looked after us so well. The food was spot on, and the drinks kept coming.

I went in for a roast and found something hard in my food that seemed like glass or hard plastic. It nearly broke my tooth, so it certainly wasn’t soft or edible. I gave the piece to the waitress on a napkin and asked her to show the chef, in case anything else had been contaminated. She came back saying it was “just salt,” which it clearly wasn’t. Later the manager said there was nothing on the napkin and the chef hadn’t seen anything. That felt dismissive, considering how serious it could have been. I shouldn’t have to take photos while eating out just to avoid being treated like I’m lying. I spoke up because I was worried about my safety, my toddler’s safety since they were sharing my meal, and the safety of other customers. They offered 20% off the meal, which I appreciate as a gesture, but still denied finding anything and insisted there was no glass in the kitchen. The lack of acknowledgment or proper investigation was disappointing and concerning from a food safety perspective. Sadly, this has put me off going back. I hope the restaurant takes situations like this more seriously in future to keep customers safe.
