Secret Water was a clean, comfortable pod, and the Boatyard was tidy and pleasant too. We spent three lovely nights on a Hippersons houseboat/pod, with paddle-boarding on the Waveney in mind. The owners were welcoming and gave us useful local tips, including advice on using the river. Bars, restaurants and Beccles were all a short walk away.

We were met when we brought the boat back, and the team had made the whole outing straightforward with a welcome, parking and clear guidance on both the craft and the local waterway. This local hire company has several electric boats, all in excellent working order and condition, for exploring the river outflow.

The boat was roomy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had lunch at the Waveney inn, then still had time to go through Beccles. Hiring a day boat was thoroughly enjoyable, with lovely scenery and a very relaxing pace. It travels at about 5 mph, so bear that in mind if you’re hoping for speed.

The person at the desk explained everything clearly and put us at ease about setting off safely. This is a well-run private company, and the boats are immaculate, very new, silent electric and run perfectly. I’d recommend it to anyone.

We spent a few days at Coot Club, which had everything needed for cooking, relaxing and sleeping well. It suited me, my partner and our two dogs perfectly, and the rowboat was a great extra. We also hired a boat for a few hours, moored at the Lock Inn for food, then cruised back along the river. The peaceful, scenic boatyard and the warm, friendly staff made the whole stay a fantastic experience. Highly recommend booking a stay.
