Library Square Penthouse Apartment

A good stay in a great location. The place was neat and very clean, though fairly basic. I did miss a few kitchen basics, perhaps bread, milk, sugar and sauces, as other apartments I've stayed in have supplied those. The £250 deposit also felt quite high and could be difficult for some people to afford.

The bathroom shower wasn't really usable, since you couldn't stand underneath it, and there was wallpaper peeling at the corners. Someone had even used cardboard as a bedroom doorstop. The apartment itself felt almost derelict: torn dining chair upholstery, damaged kitchen cupboards, stains on the bedroom carpet and sheets that clearly hadn't been changed. The living room light didn't work and its lamp was broken, while the mattresses felt about twenty years old and were very uncomfortable. I emailed when we arrived with photos, but still haven't had a reply. It was described as penthouse apartments, which this certainly wasn't. For a family of four, nearly £900 for four nights plus a large deposit was completely unacceptable.

Steer clear of this dump. The double doors wouldn't lock, which is a serious safety worry with children along. The bed linen also had blood stains, and this was definitely no penthouse.

A handy base for a city break, with a wee pub on the corner across the road that's worth a visit. It's quiet and safe, but only a few minutes' walk from the busier parts of town. The tidy penthouse has great city views, and I'd stay again.
