OYO Queens Quarter

The bathroom flooded after I showered for about five minutes this morning. The ensuite had poor sealant and drainage, stains on the wall, and a sewage smell throughout the room. We tried the number they gave us during the stated hours, but got no reply. I’ll be looking for a refund and would tell people to stay away. I have asthma, and mould is a bad trigger for me. I was wheezing through the first night, so this felt like a serious safety hazard. We’d paid nearly £200 and had been told there was a kitchen where we could prepare food. We bought microwave meals, but found loads of mould when we went in. The microwave had apparently exploded at some point and was full of mould; the cupboards held rancid mouldy food, and spores could have contaminated the plates and cutlery. There wasn’t even a sponge for washing up. The bedroom was terrible too: dirt on the floor, hard white and yellow stains on the green pillows that might have been bodily fluids, pubic hair on one towel and holes in the other. The mattress was stained and so poor that its springs dug into me all night. We could both feel the bed frame through it. The smoke alarm was filthy, and there was hair inside the kettle.

I stayed in room 10, which was nice, and the building is in a convenient spot. The bathroom was a bit cramped if you have a lot of toiletries, but otherwise it was fine. There’s a kitchen downstairs for guests, though I got the impression it isn’t cleaned or maintained often. I made an oven pizza and then realised there were no knives to cut it with. Most guests probably won’t need the kitchen, and otherwise I thought the hotel was nice.

I checked out straight away and had to book another hotel. The room was dusty, and the blanket and pillows were dirty, as though nobody had cleaned it. I sent photos and explained what had happened, but still didn’t get a refund. It was the worst experience I’ve had in the UK. I won’t book OYO rooms again, even at £25 a night.

A night or a couple away here is more than adequate. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, the WiFi reception excellent, and security was really good. I was pleasantly surprised.
