Riverdale Hall Hotel

We stayed for two nights and were impressed by how clean everything was and how lovely the staff were. They kept asking how we were, and the bar was pleasant and reasonably priced for a hotel. Rebecca, who was working there, was especially friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will definitely come back.

The rooms were comfortable, and the pub food was good enough. Breakfast was better than dinner, and the place is dog-friendly to an extent. The pool was very worn, with mould on the ceiling, though it’s fine for kids. Some staff communication could have been better, leaving us confused at breakfast and checkout. Supplementary fees hadn’t been explained clearly enough in the email beforehand, and when I politely asked about them after paying, the woman at the desk didn’t seem happy. It was fine for a comfortable stay, but don’t expect more than a three-star establishment.

I booked this as a business stopover instead of staying in Newcastle, and it turned out to be a total surprise. The staff were friendly and efficient, and our good-sized room had a comfortable bed, so we slept really well. Dinner was excellent. I can recommend the pheasant, while my partner enjoyed a plentiful cheese and onion soup starter and pork main. The hotel clearly has talented chefs. Our cooked breakfasts kept us going all the next day.

The countryside around here is breathtaking, the atmosphere lively, and the service exceptional. The food was excellent, and they were adorable with my dog and his ways. Christmas here in 2025 was the best I’ve had in a very long time. Swimming on Christmas Day ticked one off my bucket list. I found a real gem and will be back several times.
