We liked it enough to come back after last year, and we’ve never repeated a holiday stay before! The lodges are comfortable, clean and tidy, with everything well provided. They’re spaced out enough to feel private, and all we could hear was birdsong. The private hot tub was spotless and a big part of the appeal. The staff are cheerful and incredibly helpful, nothing seems too much trouble. We took the office lady’s suggestion and walked about 20 minutes along the canal path to Greenhouse Cafe, which we really recommend. This is a great choice if you want peace and quiet without the crowds, noise and overstimulation of a centre parcs style lodge holiday. We’ve already told all our friends to book.

The warm cabin and hot tub were lovely. It feels tucked away among the trees, though local shops are only a short drive away. I wouldn’t choose this place for the fishing, but the lake and surrounding area are still a nice spot to sit.

We stayed in Sycamore Lodge with our dog and really liked the wooded setting. The lodge was fantastic, and the pub just a minute down the road was lovely. There are farm animals, a kids play area, and a lake and canal running through the site. We were there during heavy snowfall, which made getting around afterwards tricky because of the steep roads. The staff were friendly and super helpful. We’d definitely come back to explore more.

The porch was a lovely place to sit and look out over the pastures and cows in the fields below. In the evening, we went down to feed Noddy the donkey and the ponies, Tigger and Pablo. There’s a pig too, though it was a bit shy and didn’t come out. We enjoyed the canal towpath walk to the right, which continues to a lovely dog-friendly pub. The little log cabin was just right for two and a dog, though it was so dark inside among the trees that we had to keep the lights on all the time. It was an experience we wanted to try, and we had a pleasant stay. Would recommend.

The kitchen could do with an update, but it worked perfectly well. There’s nowhere to wash and dry clothes, which wasn’t a major issue since Welshpool and Newtown both have laundrettes we used. Still, with a large family staying for a week, we came home with a lot of laundry. That didn’t spoil a memorable visit, and we hope to return. There were eight of us at the Captains cabin, overlooking the golf course, and we all came away content. The lodge was spacious and clean, with a veranda and stunning views of the hills and countryside. It’s remote, which made it peaceful and private, but Welshpool and Newtown are both 10-15 minutes away by car for supermarkets and shops. Much of Wales, with its spectacular scenery, is within a two-hour drive. The golf course and driving range are about a 10-minute walk away, and it’s a great place for a drink too.
