After hiking St Cuthbert’s Way, we arrived feeling at ease straight away. The Crown and Anchor is a beautiful old building overlooking the bay and castle, and the pub is really cosy. Our room was clean, spacious and sunny. The food was fresh, tasty and local, and you could tell a lot of care had gone into it. Everyone on staff was very nice and helpful. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

The breakfast was fantastic, with local Craster smoked kippers, salmon and traditional breakfasts, plus cereal and fresh coffee. The service was amazing both at the bar in the evening and at breakfast. We had come here after a dreadful experience elsewhere and hadn’t done much research on the Crown and Anchor, but trusting our instincts worked out brilliantly. Our beautiful room looked over the priory and was impeccably clean, with a supportive bed and a freshly decorated bathroom. We also loved the quiet early morning on an almost empty island. There was little noise from downstairs even on a Friday, and the community was welcoming when we came down for a reasonably priced nightcap. There’s a kit drying room too, which we didn’t need but thought was a lovely feature. I’m tempted to keep this place to myself, but it’s too good not to share. We’ll definitely book again. Such a comforting stay at the last independent pub on the island, our new happy place! ✨💕

We had such a lovely time here for lunch and dinner. When another restaurant on the island had 'lost' our Friday evening booking, the staff kindly found us a table. The service was warm, the atmosphere was great and the food was exceptional. There were lots of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options too. We hardly wanted to leave.

The gluten free fish and chips were the best I’ve ever had, with fresh, tasty fish and wonderfully light batter. The blue cheese beignets were crispy outside and very cheesy inside. The chimichurri burger was just the right size, with tasty, crispy and juicy bacon, and the black forest gateaux was a brilliant dessert. All four dishes were 10/10. Service was faultless, and there was a great choice of wines and spirits from small producers. Great atmosphere too. For me, this is the best place for food on the Island, and the best meal I’ve had anywhere in a long time. Totally recommended.

We really enjoyed our short break at this four-bedroom hotel on Lindisfarne. The family run team were friendly and helpful, and the accommodation was clean and comfortable. We had excellent meals, and there’s a lovely little bar serving real ales. The views of both the castle and priory were great. Would certainly recommend.
