Shieldhill Castle Hotel

The accessible rooms in the courtyard and the generous ground-floor space in the castle and marquee made Shieldhill Castle a great fit for my brother, who uses a power wheelchair. There are just two small steps to the dance floor, and a portable ramp can be used if needed. My husband and I got married here this summer. Because of sad family circumstances, we brought the wedding forward and arranged everything in seven weeks. Jane and the team were so helpful and accommodating through what was a stressful, emotional time. We booked all the rooms for our guests and had a fantastic time. Our border terrier Brodie could come along too, as the courtyard rooms welcome dogs. The castle rooms are beautiful, and the bridal suite had loads of space for our group to get ready. Staff kept checking in and made sure we had what we needed. Suzanne, the chef, did a brilliant job with the menu. We heard lots of compliments about the breakfast, canapes, wedding dinner and evening buffet. The building and grounds were lovely for photos, and the team went above and beyond to help everything run smoothly and make it a special day. We have so many happy memories here and look forward to visiting again. I couldn’t recommend Shieldhill Castle enough for a stay or a special occasion.

We had a lovely stay after my husband received his long service award. The courtyard rooms were beautiful, a good size and spotless. Staff were friendly and very helpful, and both the presentation dinner and breakfast were very good. I’d definitely recommend it.

We tried one of the Thursday Steak Nights and can’t recommend it enough. The service was attentive and really friendly. Our scallop starters were cooked just right, as were the steaks, which were properly rested. We’ll definitely be back!

The place had a good atmosphere, and I’d consider giving it another try after the staff have had more training and things have settled down. The rooms were comfortable and a decent standard, with a lovely view across the countryside in Lanarkshire. The staff were welcoming but seemed very new and stretched, and didn’t always seem to have full control of things. The meals were adequate, although there were clear kitchen and delivery problems. In the morning, we found the previous night’s drinks still hadn’t been cleared away, and everything felt rushed.
