The Robin 2 Hotel

There’s free parking behind the building, which is always a plus. The beer selection isn’t huge, but they have well-known lagers, all the main spirits and the usual soft drinks. Drink prices aren’t bad for a venue, and the staff are generally friendly. I’ve had some great nights here, with fantastic cover bands and some good original acts. I’ve never stayed at the hotel.

The toilets are a climb, unless you use the single accessible loo downstairs. It’s clean, but really cold. The venue itself can get very cold too, sometimes with no heating on. There isn’t much seating, and the benches are hard on your bum. They don’t provide accessible seating for disabled people, which is unfortunate for us. The acoustics can be off sometimes, beer prices are average, and the car park fills up quickly. I’ve never stayed over, but it’s a regular music venue for my boyfriend, friends and me.

The bands are top class, so this is a great place for live music. It’s a shame the management lets the experience down. You can’t buy wine by the glass, only by the bottle, and people put their hands into the bucket of ice. The owner also lies about what time the bands finish so you’ll stay later and spend more. It’s a real shame.

The drinks were very reasonably priced, and there were plenty of seats for us oldies. We went to the Robin 2 next door last Sunday to see John otway and wild willy barrett. It’s a gem of a place, with really friendly staff and a great show.
