Nice little place with friendly, welcoming staff, but my single room, R7, felt like a broom cupboard. The curtains were coming down and the shower was unusable, worse than showers I’ve had camping. A different room might have changed my view; the polite staff are the reason I’d give it three stars instead of two. If you’re planning regular drives or taxi trips into central Liverpool, be aware the tunnel costs £3.40 return, which adds to the expense.

The four poster bed was a first for me, and I loved the hotel. It was clean and well looked after, with friendly staff who didn’t get overfamiliar. Breakfast was very good and cooked just as requested.

The price has gone up, and I don’t think the place can justify it when there are better local options, if they’re available. I’d be happy to pay £25-30 a night, but at twice that I feel entitled to point out the problems. My room had a dodgy door lock. I was told nobody ever has that issue, but getting out in a fire could have been a concern. The mattresses were uncomfortable, the bed and floors creaked, and the shower was so weak I laughed and got straight out. The net curtains had tears too. It’s the small things guests notice. This place feels stuck in the past and tired, below today’s standards.

We were treated like the most important guests, and nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon tea was excellent, and the atmosphere made the whole visit enjoyable from beginning to end.

What a lovely Mother's Day gift, and such a nice afternoon. The place was spotless and tidy, the staff were lovely and kept checking on us. The afternoon tea was fresh and tasty, and the tea and coffee were fab. The coffee was nicely made and not too strong. What a lovely place to visit, do try their afternoon tea. Thank you xxx
