The Beeches

The location worked really well for me, but I left disappointed. The room felt cramped, the TV was the smallest I've seen, and the bathroom looked dated. Someone had left a guidebook on the pillow, which was a nice touch until I opened it and found grease on a lot of the pages. The bar menu made the food look great, but what arrived didn't come close to that standard. Even the cooked breakfast was lukewarm. Personally, I'd choose somewhere else.

The place looked good, and the staff were respectful and nice. My single room was very small, though, and machines outside the window, maybe generators or air conditioning, were so noisy that I didn't sleep at all. It was also too remote for me, with no shops nearby, so be ready to pay for cabs.

The staff were lovely, but the food was a huge letdown despite colleagues saying it was really good. The Thai curry was bland and watery, with tasteless boiled rice, and the bread rolls were extremely stale. The decor is very dated, too. As an event space, there are better places for less money.

The accessible room is in an annex at the back, up a steep bank. My fellow conference guests had to push me up it in pouring rain, and it was poorly lit and slippery. We worried about what would happen if it froze overnight. Someone drove their car up for me the next morning, but if there had been frost, I don't know how I would have got down. The hotel itself was really good, and we were well looked after at the conference. The food was excellent, though on Sunday they hadn't catered for me despite being told in advance that one guest didn't like spicy food.
