The Coach Hotel

On my recent stay in May 2026, it was noisy until about 11, then settled down. The room could use maintenance, but it was okay for the price and pretty good value. On an earlier four-night stay, the staff were friendly, the room was large, and the NEC was only 10 minutes away. The bedroom heating was great, though the shower room needed heat. Cleanliness could be better, hot water sometimes ran out, and noise from the attached pub woke me several times, sometimes continuing until about 12:30am.

I booked single room 3. It was small, but perfectly adequate and good value. The staff were excellent, and the room was clean and tidy, with what looked like fairly recent renovations. Very good value for money. Highly recommended.

The beer was good and well priced, and the people were friendly. My room was clean, comfortable, warm, and had a very nice shower room. The bar got a bit loud, but I couldn't hear it from the room. Well recommended.

The courtyard rooms seem to be why this place gets such a high rating. My colleagues and I were put in those at first, then, just as we'd got settled about an hour later, staff knocked to say we'd been given the wrong rooms and were meant to be inside. The mouse, decapitated, that I nearly stepped on getting out of the car should have been a warning. My new room smelled a little musty, maybe of stale smoke, and looked clean enough for a cheap hotel at first. The bathroom told a different story: thick black mould on the ceiling, clearly long-standing and even showing through a poor attempt to paint over it. Water was dripping through the spotlight, and there was a bit of “nose gold” by the light switch. Anton offered me a bottle of prosecco, as if that made the mould and risk of electrocution okay. My colleagues had mould around the shower and a huge hole in the windowsill. We decided we'd rather drive the 3½ hours home and miss day two of the print show than stay, and there weren't any other rooms available. Cigarette butts were everywhere, too.
