The Great Barr Hotel

My stay at The Great Barr Hotel was made very uncomfortable by a receptionist on the first night. A booking problem had already been resolved through Booking.com, but when I arrived I was spoken to in a condescending, dismissive way, even though I’d been polite. I felt so uncomfortable that I checked out early and found somewhere else to stay. I later contacted the hotel privately to explain and ask for a response, but heard nothing, which was disappointing. The kitchen staff were kind, the food was excellent, and the other staff I met were lovely. It’s a shame that one interaction affected the whole stay so much.

Great Barr Hotel hosted our wedding on 30.10.25, and we can’t thank the team enough. Since we started planning and booked in April, the advice and communication have been second to none. Everyone cared about making the day special in the way we wanted. My bridesmaids and I stayed the night before and were looked after well. The room was spotless, the bathroom modern, and we had everything we needed. The wedding food and drink went down a storm, and all our guests were impressed. The organisation, venue, and team were perfect for us. I honestly can’t think of anything they could have done to improve our day. A few people are already hoping to hold future events there. Thank you to reception, housekeeping, the bar and restaurant teams, maintenance, the gardeners, kitchen, events, and everyone else at the hotel. The team put in long hours, and I hope the owners recognise how much they’re worth. A massive thanks from both of us.

My prom there was such a good time. It was calm, everything was clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly and easy to approach. The toilets are by far the best public ones I’ve seen! Disability access was a bit difficult, though. Sorry for all the noise we made, aha.

We’ve been staying here for 16 years and love it. The staff are wonderful, the rooms are lovely and clean, and the beds are amazing. Breakfast is a favourite, along with the snug, inviting bar. It’s very central for us, and we’re looking forward to coming back.
