The building’s location, size, and ample parking suggest it has potential, and the showers were a good temperature with strong water pressure. The people working there seemed to care and were remorseful when we reported the problems. They refunded us after we explained the situation, but couldn’t resolve everything. Even the replacement room they offered was still horrendous. We won’t be visiting again. The place needs serious maintenance and cleaning, and the staff need stronger leadership and training. Rooms were extremely dirty, with grimy carpets and beds covered in little black flecks of dust, dirt, and hair. Some rooms smelled of sewage all night, worse in the morning, though that wasn’t the case throughout the whole hotel. There was no soundproofing, and the fire escapes were left open all night, so anyone could have wandered in. A wedding party also had a huge fight outside, blocking our vehicles from entering the car park for a while. The rear car park had a huge amount of broken glass and rubbish, more than I’ve seen at any other hotel, including other places in this price range where I often stay for work.

Room 10 was at the back of the building, and the bed was quiet and comfortable. Staff were really good too. Hard to complain at £38 pound for the room, £6.50 for breakfast, and £4 pound for a beer.

The rooms are basic but clean for the money. You get what you’d expect for the price, though the mattress is really thin and not too comfortable. My main issue was the very strong damp smell in the corridors leading to my room. It was unpleasant.

The staff were extremely rude, especially the bouncer. He bombarded us at the door, then followed us into the bar and pretty much chased us around the greenlands. He was the rudest, most disgusting man I’ve ever met. If he’d simply told us he was a bouncer, that would’ve been okay, but the way he spoke to us was unacceptable. Please take more care when hiring, because this sort of behaviour isn’t a good look for your bar. I won’t be coming back because of him. Avoid the bearded bouncer man!
