Hill Top Haven

There are walks and waterfalls right nearby, and it was easy to find. The hosts were very nice and gave us a quick, straightforward tour before leaving us to enjoy our privacy. We were welcomed with delicious fresh eggs from their adorable free-range chickens. Our dogs were welcome too, without lots of awkward rules.

Our host cooked a good breakfast, and the room was clean and comfortable. We had a great one-night stay. It’s a remote spot, reached from the main road by a steep, uneven drive, but it was passable.

We were made very welcome, and the breakfast was hard to fault. But I wouldn’t stay here again on a motorcycle, as I found getting there precarious. The loose track is steep and slippery, which isn’t ideal on a bike, and the B&B sits high on a very steep hill, about an hour out in the middle of nowhere. The owner told me it’s the highest B&B in the country. I don’t know how true that is, but it was certainly one of the scariest places I’ve ridden to. It’s a quaint place off the grid. Mind your head on the low beams across the rooms: I bashed mine several times, so a crash hat might be a good idea.

We had a fabulous stay in this clean, comfortable cottage. The hosts were lovely and welcoming, and the place is well located for exploring the North Pennines and lakes. There’s easy, free parking right outside, and it’s very dog-friendly. Thank you!
