OYO Hotel Rafay

The deposit refund went to an app called SumUp instead of the debit account I’d originally booked with, and I couldn’t post any photos. We booked one night for my partner and me, but the room felt like a box and had supplies for just one person. There was a standard Freeview TV, and we had to ask for the Wi-Fi. The duvet was ripped and well past its best. When I pulled it back, the mattress had two huge stains, and the pillows were too thin. It wasn’t a nice stay at all, and we won’t use this hotel again. I’m not impressed and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The weather turned quickly while I was cycling from Leeds to Liverpool, so I needed somewhere at the last minute. Hotel Rafay was just right for what I needed, clean, tidy, comfortable, and with all the essentials. There’s a fast food restaurant next door that they also own, and hotel guests get 20% off food. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to make sure I had what I needed. My phone charger didn’t work, so they let me borrow one of theirs, which was a lifesaver. Thanks, team. I’ll recommend the hotel to others.

Room 13 had no desk, USB port, ensuite heater, side table, or bedside light. The bed wasn’t the one shown in the picture, and its base board was broken. The blackout blind didn’t do the job, and there was no power socket for the kettle. There was no soundproofing between rooms 3 and 13. The heater had been disconnected at the fuse board. Once it was reconnected, it made a loud clanging expansion noise every half hour or so overnight, so I didn’t sleep well. Nobody was around at checkout. It all feels shoddy, like they’re aiming for maximum income with minimum investment. You might lose a “deposit”, so be careful, they have your payment details. Beware room 13. See it first.

I booked and paid for two rooms for 26/27 November. They also took a £100 “deposit”, which they assured me would be returned after two days. I emailed several times and got no response, and calls went unanswered. One week later, after multiple emails to the address they gave me, it still hadn’t been refunded. Update, 23 February 2026: I finally got the deposit back after a lengthy resolution process with my bank and Visa. The hotel’s reply above is a joke. Avoid this place. Don’t pay a deposit, or you may be fighting for months to get it back.
