Danescourt Hotel

The place was filthy, from the banister, taps, walls and floors to cobwebs everywhere. The Wi-Fi was rubbish, and there were no tables, drawers, chairs or anything. The side tables were dirty, full of hairs that I'm 100% sure weren't mine, and wouldn't open properly. There were water marks on the ceiling and peeling wallpaper. The shower and TV didn't work, and our room wasn't cleaned during the stay. The bedroom door was missing, and the duvet cover wasn't even closed. You had to make tea and coffee on the floor. They don't seem to take any pride in the place. Don't stay here for more than two days or if you plan to spend the day at the hotel.

It's a cosy hotel just a stone's throw from the South Pier, handy for Sandcastle or the pleasure beach. Staff were friendly, and when we asked for extra towels or pillows they brought them straight to the room, a nice touch. Our room was a little small for a family of four, but that was fine since we were out in Blackpool during the day and only used it to sleep and wash. There's an arcade room and bar downstairs. Breakfast and parking are available for an extra cost if you need them. A nice little stay, no complaints.

The location is the real highlight. Head left and you're at the south pier, with the pleasure beach only a few minutes away, if that. Blackpool south train station is less than a 10-minute walk. The staff were clean, friendly and helpful, and the prices were reasonable.

I've stayed at this hotel twice and do like it. They serve a great breakfast, let us have a ground-floor room, and allow us to store our wheelchair at reception, so we'll stay again. But during this two-night visit our room wasn't refreshed at all, and I had to ask reception for more toilet rolls. We also went out and bought our own milk for coffee. I found the girl on reception on Sunday 22nd June lazy. I asked if we could leave our luggage in the luggage room for a few hours, and she agreed, but we had to take it in ourselves despite the sign saying staff only. When we came back, we had to get it out ourselves too, while the young girl sat at reception.
