Lancaster Holiday Apartments

We booked two rooms for four nights, based on photos of clean, nice rooms. When we arrived, nobody was there to meet us. There was only a piece of paper with our name and room number, and we hadn't been told that the rooms would be changed. We ended up in the basement, which wasn't mentioned in the booking details. Room 2 had a broken window, a view of a camper trailer tent, and a cold, damp smell. The wall heater didn't work because there was no fuse in its plug. The listing also didn't say the electricity was on a prepay meter, and it ran out very quickly. It's a very poor place and I wouldn't stay again or recommend it. We usually use somewhere else but couldn't get in this time, so we'll go back to my old place. It has a good room-only price and is 100% cleaner than this one.

We stayed longer than planned and ended up using two rooms. Both were clean and had what we needed for a week or two of self-catering. The owner was pleasant and helpful. We only ate in twice, but that wasn't because of the flats. Big shops are close enough to walk to when public transport is busy, and we did that quite a few times. Pretty good.

The owners were lovely, and the location worked well for us. Our two children felt safe and settled in right away during our two-night stay. The place was homely, clean and comfortable, which was a nice surprise for two adults and two kids. The decor could use an update, but I'd still book again. Good value and a lovely visit.

We booked at the last minute and the listing said payment would be on arrival, but money left my account on the first. I didn't think much of it until I saw the room. Nobody was there to meet us, so I couldn't raise a complaint with anyone at the property. There was no wall heater and no heat at all, so it was freezing and we slept fully dressed. The shower was filthy, and I couldn't bring myself to use it. The kitchen was dated, with missing drawers, and wasn't very clean. The TV didn't work, there was no advertised WiFi, and a hole went right through the wall into the next room. The pull-down bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Since we'd paid already, our choice was to stay or sleep in the car, so we reluctantly stayed. No one was available when we checked out either, so I began seeking a refund through booking.com. Lancaster Apartments told booking.com the hole had been made on Friday night just before our arrival and they hadn't had time to fix it. I believe that's a lie, because someone had posted about the same hole three days before we arrived, four days before I opened my complaint. A previous review also showed the wall heater had come off in July. I think the WiFi plug was damaged around July too, though I might be remembering that wrong. Lancaster Apartments has refused my refund twice so far. I've contacted Trading Standards and Blackpool Council and plan to pursue it as far as I can.
