The owner was welcoming when we arrived, but the hotel was in poor condition and a complete letdown. The room was dated, with holes in the wall and old wallpaper. The shower had very little pressure and the drain was dirty. The beds were hard as a floor and left me in more pain instead of relaxed. The TV was so old it took ages to load. There was only a kettle in the room, yet we weren’t allowed food or drinks there. It was freezing cold too. We have a three-month-old baby and asked to use the microwave to sterilise bottles, but no one told us it would be locked at nine. When we got back around 10:30 or 11, we couldn’t sterilise the bottles. We rang because it was an emergency and got no response. The shared tea and coffee area is really dated and needs major work. That was the worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had, and I definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

We were moved because Fair view hotel had overbooked, and ended up at Helmshore around the corner. I was really disappointed they sent us there. The sheets had stains and hairs on them, the carpets and doors were dirty, and the curtains were coming away. The shower was awful, the TV was hanging off the wall, and its aerial was live and dangling loose. There was no breakfast either, though I wouldn't have wanted to eat there. The Fair view hotel itself looked alright, but this was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

The room itself was lovely, which made having to leave a shame. We found bed bugs, and the woman seemed upset but agreed that they were bedbugs. She called around to find us somewhere else to stay, and we didn't have to pay the extra even though the other hotel cost more. I wouldn't stay again. There was also a claim that the hotel payment hadn't gone through, despite it showing as taken from my online banking. Seeing other reviews made that seem a bit suspicious.

We only booked at the last minute after our caravan holiday fell through, and the staff went out of their way to help us. The top floor was fantastic, with two big family rooms and a large bathroom between them. The beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up, especially with that lovely breakfast smell around. The buffet had loads of choices and was outstanding. I loved the place and would absolutely return. I'd give it a 10 if I could!

The parking advertised as private at the back was just a yard off a narrow lane with room for four cars. With all the street parking full, we had to pay £10 for overnight parking elsewhere. Our beds were worn and very uncomfortable, and a socket was hanging completely off the wall. There was a horrible smell as soon as we entered the room, coming from what they called the bathroom. The woman at reception was unfriendly and rude when we arrived, then on checkout told us to put the key there without even saying thank you or asking how the stay was. Very disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it.
