The Vernon Hotel

There was no running hot water, and the room was so cold I slept in my coat and scarf. I asked the manager five times over 24 hours to turn on the heating. They kept saying they had, but when I came back the room was freezing. I booked three days and left on the second. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It shouldn’t be open to families or the general public.

The food served at the interval was top notch, and the pool room was boss. There was also a big bar room, both decorated nicely for the crimbo season. I was there for a pool match tonight, and the hospitality was warm and welcoming. If I weren’t local, I’d stay at this hotel and recommend it based on what I saw and felt. My mother and I wanted some peace and quiet, and that’s what we got. It’s not a 5 star hotel, but it felt homely, warm and welcoming. The owners couldn’t do enough for us and nothing was a problem. Given what I paid, I think it’d be unfair to complain about the standards people seem to expect these days. I wouldn’t think twice about staying again.

I had a disappointing, very unprofessional interaction with the hotel. They called me, and when I couldn’t answer, I called back straight away. The person who picked up said they hadn’t called me, then transferred the phone to someone else. That person was extremely rude and disrespectful and didn’t seem to know how to speak to customers. Based on that experience, I wouldn’t recommend doing business with them. If this is how they treat customers, I can only imagine what the service would be like during a stay.
