The dinner was really good, as we’d seen in earlier reviews, and the rooms were very clean. But the single-glazed windows were draughty, and we’d been told the day before arrival that the room hot water was off, though the showers still worked. We stayed because it was too late to find somewhere else. At breakfast, two couples were already waiting in the dining room and had been there over an hour for their cooked meals. Once theirs arrived, we decided to leave and find something in Perth. It turned out the manageress was doing the cooking.

We ended up waiting about 45 minutes, and what arrived was a real letdown. The tea came first, stewed and lukewarm, then my toasted sandwich arrived barely warm. I sent it back, but still had to argue that I shouldn’t pay for it. The waitress offered to discount the teas and coffees. There were five of us, though I can only speak for myself. We’d stopped at the Burrelton pub for lunch and to warm up after the village Christmas market, but the restaurant itself was chilly. It could be a great place, which makes the disappointment worse. I won’t be back.

After a cycle ride in Cupar Angus, I stopped in for food. The steak pie was piping hot, nicely presented, and had really tender meat. Service was good too. I’d definitely return next time I’m in the area.

Thanks for the warm welcome and clean bed. It’s a tidy, well-run pub with rooms, and the busy team were cheerful and hardworking. Good beer, helpful staff. Roger and two pilot friends :-)
