The Jollys

The place is above a bar or pub, and it gets very loud. There was karaoke on Saturday night, which might be fun for some, but not when you’re trying to rest after a long day exploring the city. It’s also in a run-down part of town with little to see, so you’ll need a ride into Liverpool for a wider choice of restaurants. We stayed four days. Used towels were left on the communal bathroom floor every day, and other guests didn’t clean up after themselves. It didn’t seem the staff cleaned up either. Actually, there wasn’t any staff around. I only saw someone when I complained about the cleanliness and lack of toilet paper. And despite being called a bed and breakfast, it was just a bed. Maybe I misunderstood what to expect, but I thought someone would provide breakfast. Nobody cleaned, and nobody cooked breakfast either. To be fair, perhaps the other guests were a big part of the problem, but the place wasn’t cleaned well.

There are several big TVs showing sports. On a recent wet evening, they had dog racing on. The staff are friendly, though I only started coming to this pub this year. The bus stop right outside is handy for getting to the bus station at Washington Parade. I imagine some people might drop in after taking the train back from the city to New Strand.

We got in touch and arranged to check in at eleven, but when we arrived there was nobody there. The service was very bad, and I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

Great beer garden, huge Sky screens showing all the live sports, and a really welcoming atmosphere. The staff and customers are very friendly, it’s well run, and it feels very family-friendly.
