Cecil Court Hotel

We won’t be coming back after this visit. The man who let us into Cecil Court Hotel was rude and arrogant, unlike the person who was there last year. Our room was cold, with no heating on. The bathroom floor sat lower than the room, which felt dangerous, especially stepping out of the shower onto a slippery surface. There were only three towels, none of them bath towels, and by morning they were damp in the cold room. The kettle was too big to fill at the bathroom sink, there was no bottled water, and despite the coffee and tea bags, there weren’t any spoons. What a shame to see it go downhill. I’d avoid it.

The shower pressure was quite weak, and there was just one towel, with no hand towel. I’d expect a small and a large one as standard. The bathroom was especially poorly cleaned: the wall mounted soap racks were filthy, and the bin hadn’t been emptied when we arrived. It would also help to have a room leaflet with details like check-in and check-out times, plus a door sign for either Do Not Disturb or Please Clean My Room. I found the stay quite disappointing.

I’ve been coming here for 12 years and have booked again for next year. The staff are friendly, breakfast is good, and the rooms are nice. It’s also well placed for the seafront and buses.

The host, who seemed to be the senior one, was very friendly, and I’d stay here again if I needed to. The room was clean and nice, with a huge TV that had YouTube and other things on it. It was better than a lot of nearby hotels and the price felt right. Parking outside is limited, though, and the mattress was too soft for me. The floorboards creaked a bit as well. Be aware that walking back up from the beach is fairly steep and could be tricky for some.
