Devon Towers Hotel

We booked two nights but cancelled as soon as we arrived. Before bringing in our bags or checking in, I went inside to ask where we could park nearby. The staff couldn’t help and just said, “Goodluck”. The musty, mouldy smell put us off immediately, and from the outside alone we’d already wondered if we had the right hotel. We never even got to the room. We booked another hotel at the last minute for less money, and it was lovely, with a pool and a much nicer experience. DO NOT GO HERE.

The location was very good, which is why I gave it two stars. The place itself felt depressing and was dirty and smelled of mould. There were hairs in the bathroom and wallpaper coming off. The bar and tables with white cloths shown in the pictures didn’t seem to exist. The hotel is falling apart, and I was glad to leave in the morning. I’d have cried if I’d booked it for more than one night.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There were many people smoking marijuana in the building, and maybe some were dealers, though I can’t say for sure. The furniture was broken, the rooms smelled bad, and the whole building looked deserted and repurposed. It felt very basic, with no comfort or quiet. Many guests seemed shady to me, like people who couldn’t secure a place in residential accommodation. The property is owned by KINGSLEY HOUSING. After you leave, they keep your deposit for at least five days before returning it, for no reason. First of all, they’re no longer part of Leisureplex Hotels. And how this place has 3.8 starts on Google beats me.

We only booked for one night, and the photos on the website were deceiving. The building looked run down when we arrived, and my first thought was, “Oh my God, what have I booked?” There was nobody at reception, so I had to phone a number to get service, though the staff were pleasant enough once we reached them. The room was an OK size, but the carpet had loads of stains. The kettle worked, but had a cracked hole three-quarters of the way up. There was only half a toilet roll and no spare, and the bathroom mirror light didn’t work. The room listing said there’d be a microwave, but there wasn’t one, which messed up my early breakfast plans. There’s no on-site parking, so you have to hunt around for a space. For the same price, I could have stayed at a Travel Lodge, which would’ve been 100% better. Sorry, I wouldn’t book again.
