The Hop Inn

We were staying at a local hotel and looking for dinner, so we tried this place because it was nearest. It’s a lively pub with music from a streaming channel, and we weren’t disappointed. Despite being busy, the friendly staff served our food quickly and helped us newbies. I had gorgeous chorizo macaroni cheese, and he had the brisket-topped burger. We’d love to come back, though the hour and a half drive puts me off. Thanks, luvs x

I’ve recently moved to the area for a multi-million-pound project I’m working on, and stumbled across this place. It’s going to be my local for a year. The beer is superb, with plenty of good brands to choose from, and the food is very good with a wide variety of options. The bar staff are friendly and professional, especially Nick. Well done, THE HOP.

A pretty big pub with friendly service and good prices. There are a few beer choices, quite a few lagers but not so many ales, and there’s a pool table. The food menu seemed a little pricey, and we couldn’t find any suitable vegan options. Still a great place for a drink and a game of pool. There’s also a hotel, but we didn’t stay or ask about it.

We paid nearly £12.00 for two pints, and they should have been spot on. The real ale was cloudy, so I asked the barman if it was an unfined ale. He didn’t know what I meant. I put it simply and asked if it was supposed to be cloudy. He said it had only gone on that morning, then told me to sniff it. Very professional. I tasted it and it was really sour. He gave me the other real ale, a totally different type, and that was just as bad. We left while he was pulling half pints off and staring at them. Now I’m in Wetherspoons drinking a £2.25 pint of Jaiput, and it’s spot on. The Hop Inn barman needs to stop going out for a cigarette every five minutes and sort the lines out.
