I stayed for 3 nights in Feb. The location is beautiful and the food I had was gorgeous, though the menu only has 6 to 8 options. The drinks list, on the other hand, runs to about 4 pages. Some staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, but I found others disrespectful and a bit rude at times. The website was misleading, and I was surprised to find there are no staff at all from around 11:30 until about 7. I had a problem during those hours and was left on my own. The doors to the “hotel” are locked from about 11 onwards, so you can’t get in if you arrive after that. The manager seemed unsure what rating the hotel has. In my opinion, the Clansman shouldn’t call itself a hotel. It’s not a 3 star hotel with no overnight reception. It’s also not really suitable for bus passengers, since you have to cross a busy road to get there. The manager suggested a taxi, but the prices would make Glasgow black cabs look reasonable. The Clansman could be a wonderful wee hotel if it were run properly. Maybe I expect too much, but I’m from Glasgow, where I think we do things a bit better.

The food was the best we’ve had on our trip, and the drinks were phenomenal. We also got a “loch ness passport” for buy one get one tickets on the cruise, which was absolutely amazing, as well as whiskey tours and the Loch Ness center. The staff were kind and attentive. Our room had gorgeous views, was clean and comfortable, and even had warm towels in the bathroom. The building is a bit old, but it’s very well kept and that adds to the charm. A wonderful place to stay, and I’d definitely come back. Thank you!

We stayed from 4th to 11th October. Storm Amy unfortunately ruined the day for everyone, but the hotel helped us find another hotel for the night. All the staff were absolutely amazing. We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, with amazing choices for people eating gluten free. The food and service were exceptional, and the view of Loch Ness from our bedroom and breakfast table every day is something I’ll always cherish. A big thank you to everyone who helped us. Some people just can’t be happy with anything.

Breakfast by the window overlooking Loch Ness was unmatched, and the food was great. The service was so friendly too. In the evening we relaxed on the couches by the bar, trying their scotch collection and Magners on tap, our favourite. We had the coziest stay, and still talk about how perfect it was more than a year later. Anyone planning a trip to Scotland needs to stay here!

I live in South Africa and paid 6 months in advance, only to arrive after driving all the way from Windermere and find the hotel closed. Bookings.com didn’t care. The receptionist, Claire, was unprofessional and didn’t know what to do or say. While we waited in the restaurant, she told the bar staff she’d need a drink that night. A couple of hours later, manager Adam McMaster called to apologise and admitted he’d forgotten to tell me they would be closed. I’d paid 6 months earlier and hadn’t heard a word. We had to scramble to find another hotel, which was difficult at the time and caused a huge inconvenience. There was no follow-up, compensation, or invitation to come back. Very disappointing. As a couple, we’d wanted to stay at this hotel for years, which obviously won’t happen now. Cliff
