The Ram Inn

Our reservation was cancelled by email at the last minute, just two hours before we were due to reach the destination. We were already travelling when the message arrived. They said another guest had been given priority for an extra night. It was very inconvenient, though luckily we found a nearby Premier Inn at short notice. Otherwise, our family of four could have been stranded. I wouldn't rely on this place for even a one-night stay, let alone two.

We had three rooms booked for six people through Booking.com. Our booking had been in place since June, but they cancelled it at 2:30pm, half an hour before the 3pm check-in, saying they were overbooked. They claimed they'd called, but no call came through. We ended up relocating while on the motorway. I have my suspicions about what happened. On two calls, the person claiming to be the manager seemed to change voice and gender. When they called our price 'super cheap', it reinforced my impression that their booking management was poor and that they might choose whichever price suited them better, especially given how little there is to do in the area. Seeing the other reviews, I'm glad we didn't stay. If you're counting on a room before a wedding or major event, I'd be wary. Even with a confirmed booking, they may cancel carelessly if it suits them.

We needed a last-minute two-night stay near the base. The room was nice, but the bathroom had no shower door at all. We had a lot on our minds and didn't want to make a scene, so we kept the showers short. It's not the end of the world, but how can they charge over $100 a night for a room without a shower door?
