I’ve stayed here several times before, but the last visit has put me off coming back. The room felt dated and wasn’t what I’d expect from this kind of property. Its view was fantastic, though cloudy because the windows were so dirty. The bigger problem was the bed. I booked a sea-view room with a king for my daughter and me, then my toddler grandson joined us after plans changed. We measured the bed three times and each time it matched a double, not a king. I have a king at home where all three of us can sleep comfortably, but this one was nowhere near the advertised size. When I raised it, a male staff member insisted it was a king and nearly ridiculed me. He later emailed after saying he’d measure it, but still said I was wrong. We had a very uncomfortable night, and it spoiled how much I’d enjoyed earlier stays. I wouldn’t repeat the experience.

The beachside location was convenient, but I wouldn’t stay here in summer again. During the heatwave, the room was like an oven. There’s no AC in any room, the windows barely open, and the tiny fan I had to ask reception for was blowing hot air after ten minutes. I couldn’t sleep at all. The room terms were misleading too. I booked a Standard “Twin Bed” expecting two beds, then learned at reception that their “Twin Bed” means one single bed. Breakfast also costs almost £3 more if you don’t book it the night before. Maybe it’d be tolerable in winter, but not in the heat.

We brought our dog, so the dog-friendly policy was a plus. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean but compact. The barman was very helpful when we needed an ice bucket and champagne glasses for a birthday. Breakfast wasn’t for us, it was lukewarm and had limited hot choices. A straight four out of four for our long weekend. I did miss having a fridge.

Four Points gave me a top-floor room, which made for a peaceful three-night solo break at a cheap, cheerful rate. I slept comfortably and watched The Big Bang Theory in bed. The room had useful amenities, and I had a pleasant stay. It’s on Brighton’s colourful coast, within walking distance of Brighton i360, Brighton Palace Pier and other attractions. The receptionist gave me a warm welcome and handled my requests without hesitation. Rooms were cleaned thoroughly every day, and staff respected my privacy when I didn’t want to be disturbed, leaving a note about how to request service. There’s a ground-floor bar with hot and cold drinks. I paid three pounds for a Pepsi. They also do Margherita and Pepperoni pizza. The restaurant has plenty of seats for breakfast, though food choices were limited. That didn’t bother me much, with so many different restaurants nearby.

The staff were very good, and the photos give a clear idea of the rooms. This is a budget seafront hotel in an old building, so it delivers what you’d expect, though there’s room for improvement. The basic breakfast didn’t seem worth £12.50 unless it’s included. My room was unbearably hot even with the windows open in November, and there’s no air-con. There’s no in-room safe, the shower pressure was poor, and the old floors squeak and aren’t level. Noise isolation is poor too. As a top-tier Marriott Bonvoy member, I got one of the smallest rooms with no view even though better rooms were available, so higher-tier members shouldn’t expect a good upgrade. At Four Points Flex, Marriott Bonvoy Elite members earn only one Elite night credit per two nights and half the Bonvoy points they’d get with most other Marriott brands. This used to be The King’s Hotel until July 2025.
