Some drunks coming back in the early hours woke us one night, though that wasn’t the flat’s fault. We had a great weekend in Brighton, and Joy3 had the basics covered: clean rooms, internet, a TV, and straightforward self check-in and check-out. It was also very good value compared with the other places we looked at.

We’ve stayed here twice now and really love the place. There was no electricity in the kitchen when we arrived last night, but they fixed it within an hour after we reported it. They even offered a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience, despite the problem lasting only an hour. We’d happily recommend it.

The location is great, and the place was surprisingly clean, but I wouldn’t stay again. I’m fairly slim and still found the tiny shower a squeeze. The bottom floor windows don’t open, so it gets stuffy, and there’s a hallway light shining through the door all night if you need darkness to sleep. The walls are so thin that you hear every movement from next door and upstairs, all night. I’ve lived in uni accommodation, and this was loud enough that I couldn’t sleep. Parking costs £30 extra, which they don’t tell you upfront. There’s no breakfast, just a very hard bed, though the duvet was somewhat comfortable. They don’t give you keys either, so after a few drinks you have to remember a long entry code and tackle the very steep stairs. It’s far too expensive for what you get.

We slept well, the beds were comfy, and the room was fine. Check-in was clear and easy, and everything was very clean. The location was especially handy for our concert at Brighton centre, only about a three-minute walk away, and it’s very good value for the area. The house seems to sit on a slope that wasn’t corrected during construction, so the place felt like it was leaning. It wasn’t really a problem, and the building is old, but climbing the stairs after a few drinks was an interesting experience.

The room itself was clean and fine, but I wouldn’t stay again. I paid over £100 for it, yet parking was another £30 for 24 hours with no discount. Outside was noisy: men were doing work on the property when I arrived, making it sound like a construction site all afternoon, and kids gathered outside the window in the evening and were loud until 2am. The maids arrived at 9am, even though checkout was at 11am, and started banging about and chatting loudly. It felt like they were trying to get everyone up and out so they could leave early.
