The location was good, but the hostel itself was really bad. There were no secure storage spaces in the bedroom, just a very small locker you had to rent for £1. Each floor had only one toilet with two WCs, serving three bedrooms of 12 people each. The building smelled odd and wasn't clean. My bed space had dirty marks, there were no main lights in the room, and some of the individual lights were broken. Staff weren't rude, but they weren't friendly either. I've stayed in better places.

We had a great time at the bar, with Simon sorting us out with a free beer and putting on banging tunes. He showed us around the whole building, so it was easy to find everything. The showers are shared, but everyone seemed sound, and the evening live music was amazing. It's a cheap place, £20 for two people for one night, with a basic breakfast included: toast, pancakes, cereal, juice, tea and coffee. There's a nice little communal area and a washer and dryer, so we could get all our laundry done. Only a 10 minute walk to the beach. Banging spot to stop on your travels, and we'd definitely come back!

The included self-service breakfast was a nice touch, with pancakes, cereal and toast. I didn't check out the kitchen, but the staff were helpful and let me leave my bicycle securely downstairs, off the street. I stayed in a 15 bed dorm and slept undisturbed. The bathroom facilities seemed fairly new and were acceptably clean, and the bed linen was crisp. For the price, I hadn't expected much, but the laid back place had plenty of character and felt welcoming to young people from all walks of life. I'd visit again.

A typical British pub downstairs, with a nice atmosphere, and breakfast is included and good. It's a nice place for backpackers. The rooms are small, though you're really only there to sleep. One thing missing from the dorm beds is a private light, which you usually get in backpacker hostels.

The staff were friendly, and the location is handy, just a few minutes from the main streets and seafront. Still, I honestly slept more comfortably on the rocky Brighton beach than in this hostel. Our check-in was messed up twice, and someone was already sleeping in the beds we'd been assigned. We had no power or water for a large part of the stay. They suggested using the pub across the street, but it was closed. Halfway through, we were moved to another room, and weren't allowed to stay in the hostel or bar between checkout and getting the new room unless we bought something. We were told at 11am that day that checkout was by 10am, then got told off for not leaving on time. The rooms are cramped, there's no free locker, and the bunk above means you can't sit up straight in bed. The bar lists the wrong prices because, apparently, changing them is “a pain”.
