At the White horses hotel, the staff are caring and go the extra mile to make your stay pleasant. There’s lovely attention to detail in the rooms, from the artwork and little treats to the quality soaps and amenities. Simply superb. Well done!

We paid £135 per person for the New Year’s Eve gala at The White Horse, and £420 for one night felt grossly overpriced. The hotel is attractive and the surrounding area picturesque, but those were the only real positives. The room was unbearably hot, and all they offered was a cheap fan. The gala dinner was nowhere near worth the cost. The beef Wellington was poorly done, with a dry spinach base that made it unpleasant. The steak itself was acceptable, but came with no variety of vegetables, just more spinach. The dessert was supposed to be a warm pear, but arrived cold, bitter and completely inedible. They did offer a complimentary bottle of wine, but it didn’t make up for the poor experience. We wouldn’t return or recommend staying here.

The rooms were beautiful. Most of us had booked classic doubles, and every room had a slightly different layout and decor, but they were all lovely. We wished the rooms had fridges for keeping water cold. It may just be personal preference, but everyone in our party wanted one. We asked for an ice bucket and ice, and it was brought up promptly. We were there for two nights as a wedding party. The welcome was warm, the service incredible and the staff so attentive that nothing felt like too much trouble. Dinner and breakfast were very good, with great service from the restaurant team too. It was a treat to stay, and I’d definitely recommend it.

We stayed in January 2026, as we have several times before with our well-behaved dog. This time I booked one of the extra dog-friendly rooms the hotel was offering, upgraded our room and reserved dinner too. But on Friday night we were seated in a cramped corner of a very busy bar. That hadn’t happened on earlier visits, so we decided to eat in our room instead. The hotel used to have a designated restaurant area for guests with dogs. For reasons nobody explained, that seems to have gone. It’s disappointing to offer more dog-friendly rooms while guests with dogs end up pushed into a noisy bar for dinner. Unless this changes, sadly, we won’t return.
