College Green is a lovely spot to stop and watch the city go by. This triangular patch of green sits right in central Bristol, with Bristol Cathedral and the grand City Hall around it. I like how a visit here brings together the city's architecture, nature, and local feel.

There's usually something coming up at College Green. The light festival displays held here each year have been worth seeing for the last two years, as far as I know. You get a great view of the cathedral, and the spot is close to the centre with a bus stop served by lots of buses. In summer it's a lovely place to sit, busy during the day and well lit after dark.

We took the park and ride into Bristol and followed the Gromit trail around the harbourside, then found plenty of landmarks on College Green. My husband, who's Bristolian, spotted the Gold Unicorn on the council building. His father helped install it, and we think he may be in a photo we have, which brought back memories. Before that we'd seen The Bristol Cathedral Choir School and Bristol Cathedral on the walk up, then the council offices and fountains. We sat for a while to enjoy the views and the Wallace statue before heading down the steps to our next stop. We've lived in the West Country for 15 years, and usually drive into Bristol for specific things. This time we decided to be tourists, and loved finding such a big green space in the city centre.

With the cathedral looking over it and the council offices' decorative fountains nearby, this is a pleasant place to meet friends or take a short breather from the busy streets. It's a tidy, well-kept green space right in the centre.
