Brookside Leisure Park

Simon was great whenever we needed a hand, and there’s free WiFi, though you do have to pay for electricity. The private pool hire is a nice extra at just £10 an hour, even if the pool itself is a bit tired. The setting is scenic, with a lovely walk to Chirk, the viaduct and local pubs, plus a Spar for most shopping needs. The narrow roads can be nerve-racking, though. It’s worth weighing the place against what you pay. The site looks worn and could use investment. Most of the hot tub jets didn’t work, and the tub looked patched up. For a week of self-catering, I found the lack of a proper freezer odd. There’s only a small freezer compartment at the top of the fridge.

The cabins have everything we needed, and we made the most of the beautiful surroundings with long walks with our dog. Afterward, we could relax in the hot tub and take in the view. Simon checks that you’re settled when you arrive and asks if you need anything, then leaves you to enjoy your stay. We’ve stayed at Brookside three times now and still love it. This time we were in Redwood cabin 2 with our son and a friend. The facilities looked great, and we’re determined to try them next time. Amazing place, can’t wait to come back.

We had a lovely, relaxing weekend at Holly Tree Lodge. The cabin was clean and well equipped, with beautiful views from a fabulous location. The swimming pool can be booked privately for a small fee, and the hot tub was a welcome extra, clean and well maintained. The cabins are a little dated and could use some TLC, so I might have rated it four stars if it weren’t for how accommodating and helpful Simon was. That made it five.

The location is the highlight, with wonderful countryside and walks close by. Since the site is small, it’s peaceful too, so we could enjoy the views and hot tub. The place feels tired. It looks like a lot was spent when it was first built, but not much maintenance has happened since. The cabins are worn as well, though they’re clean and well appointed. The hot tub was a bonus and was well maintained.
