I live locally and had no idea the street parking outside was run by the hotel. It looks just like council street parking, and I’d stopped to drop something off at a local shop. Then a man thumped on my car window and demanded that I move because the car was “touching” a white line. He never identified himself as a parking warden, kept asking how long I’d be and telling me to move, and even stood beside the car, making it dangerous to park. He was rude, aggressive, and acted like a bully. If it’s a private car park, it needs signs. There weren’t any, just a grumpy man demanding money from people. This sort of service could drive local businesses away. I don’t know what the hotel itself is like, but I hope the service inside is better than the first experience you get when parking. First impressions count, and this one was awful.

For a clean and comfy budget stay in central Burnley, this is exactly what you want. The hotel’s undergoing a refurb, and my room was tidy with a brand new, really comfortable bed. The staff were brilliant. Tony on reception gave me a fabulous welcome, made me a cappuccino as soon as I arrived, and escorted me to my room. Proper old-school portering.

It cost far more than it was worth. There was hair all over the bed and sink, as if the place hadn’t been cleaned after the last guest. The radiator was filthy too, and the staff seemed like really dodgy people.

The couple running this hotel deserve credit. It’s basic for now, but they have a vision and will go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience.
