The desk staff were very nice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. We had a wedding nearby on 30th May and I'd checked online beforehand that the rooms had safes. Google said they did, but there aren't any in the hotel rooms, which seemed unbelievable when so many people give money as wedding gifts. There was no air conditioning either, despite the beautiful weather. One of our meals was Natchos, which was completely inedible. Hotel policy meant we couldn't get the money back. We could have ordered something else, but at 8.30 at night, after that first attempt, we didn't feel like risking it. Instead, the amount owed was credited as breakfast for someone else in our group. That was the only way they could return it.
The staff are friendly, and the dining arrangements are adequate, though nothing special. It's a handy business hotel on the edge of Bury St Edmunds. The rooms are clean and tidy, in the standard style you see everywhere.
Best hotel experience we've had during our two weeks in England. We arrived pretty late last night, 4/11, with a few other wrestlers, and there was a whole mix-up over who had which rooms. The gentleman at the counter handled it so well, even when one guest was super rude. He stayed gracious and did everything he could to make sure our stay worked out. Whoever he was, give him a proper pat on the back and a raise. Cheers!
There was a total lack of customer service throughout our three-day stay, and nobody offered to reduce the fees. Our room, 305, backed onto the spot where they empty bottles from the bar, so it was noisy at night. The gardens were noisy too, with the hotel on a busy road and ambulance stations nearby. We were told on arrival that the main dining area would be unavailable from 7pm because of a private party. We could still eat, but after 50 minutes we asked where our food was. They apologised and it arrived five minutes later, with our mains too. We didn't want everything together, but the mains came two minutes later, just as we'd started the starter. They hadn't been redone or kept warm, and were cold. A real mix of ups and downs.
The hotel was great value and comfortable, with a spacious room, everything we needed, and a great shower. It was a bit warm, so we opened the window. We stayed two nights for my special birthday, and the staff were amazing and very helpful. We had a great sleep, and dinner was lovely. The steak was amazing, and since I don't eat chips they happily swapped mine for vegetables. Their Earl Grey tea was amazing too. The location is great, with a safe 20-minute walk to town that takes you past a beautiful old house and gardens with a coffee shop. My hubby and I had a great stay. We'll tell family and friends about it. Congrats to your team, definitely worth five stars across the board.
