Tideswell is a lovely, unspoilt village with good walks right from the door, so we didn’t need the car. We spent two nights in this cosy little cottage while I was walking the Monsal Trail. It was clean and warm, had everything we needed, and even included a complimentary bottle of wine, thank you. We had a delicious lamb shank and a really friendly welcome at “the star inn”, just a couple of minutes away on foot. There are other pubs and places to eat in the village, including a fish and chip shop and an Italian restaurant, plus a bakery, co-op, pharmacy, butcher and greengrocer. There are two flights of stairs in the cottage, so it wouldn’t suit someone with mobility issues.
