2 Primitive Mews

Our whippet loved running around in the enclosed meadows beside the cottage. It’s rare to find a holiday place with such a good setup for dogs, and the area also has some nice walks. Number 2 is a good choice if you want an enclosed garden. The cottage was lovely, well equipped and in a great location. Happy dog, happy family! We’d book again.

There are walks straight from the door, and it’s a lovely area to explore. We enjoyed having access to the dog friendly paddock, and the pub within walking distance served great food. The locals were friendly, and we joined in the pub quiz. The cottage was a little tired and could use a coat of paint. There’s no recycling, which I think is a must these days, or at least there should be clear information about where to find a recycling centre. The local supermarkets didn’t seem to have facilities for it. Our car was full, otherwise we’d have brought our recycling home. We’ll definitely visit again.

The cottage was clean and had everything we needed, and it’s in a good spot for days out. It welcomes dogs and has a three-acre field right beside it for them to use. On arrival, we found tea, coffee, milk, bread, beans and biscuits, which was a lovely touch. You could also buy a bottle of wine for £5. I’d definitely recommend it.

The cottages are in a row of three, all dog friendly. We stayed in number 3, the one closest to the road. It’s been renovated to a good standard, and the electric heating kept it cosy. The village has charm, with a church and pub but no shops. Residents of the cottages and the campsite have access to the paddock, which is a great bonus. It’s a beautiful part of the country, with many footpaths, some only a few yards from the cottage, and easy access to Buxton and Bakewell.
