The scenery around the location was lovely, but that’s about all I can say in its favour. We drove over an hour for a night away, bought as a wedding present through Groupon, and were very disappointed. When we arrived, people were sleeping in the car park. At first we thought it was odd but harmless. Inside, the first thing we were asked was whether we had the voucher. It felt like our room was specifically for Groupon guests, and it looked nothing like the photo in the Groupon advert. It was freezing, with mould around the window and dirty cushions stained red and brown. We were given a fan heater in case it got too cold. Only one spotlight in the bathroom worked, and the kettle still had water from the previous guest. My wife and I packed our bags and drove home. The guest book looked as if all the entries had the same handwriting, which made me question the place. We’d been told the food was pub-style, but all we could smell was curry, and it turned out to be a curry house. I do not recommend it.

The village was lovely, and the curries in the restaurant were really nice. We’d read the reviews and weren’t expecting much, but our family room off the car park was fine for what we needed. It had a large, comfortable bed and was clean and warm. Some parts felt tired and details were overlooked, though that didn’t affect our stay.

The staff were friendly and gave us great service, and all the food was beautifully cooked. We had poppadoms, Lamb Tikka Massala, Chicken Bhuna, Pilau rice and a Peshwari Naan, and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We ate here while staying in Hartington and weren’t disappointed. It’s a new restaurant that deserves support. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

We stopped in for Sunday dinner, as we have before, but found they’re now only serving Indian food. That wasn’t what we wanted for Sunday lunch. The smell of spices around the dining area was also very strong and left me quite breathless. If you’re after curry it might be okay, but it’s not for us. Sorry.

The on-site restaurant was great, and I’d especially recommend the Lamb Madras. The staff were polite, professional and very accommodating, and made us feel right at home. Great value for money too. Thanks to everyone for a lovely weekend, from Matt and Kat.
