Tideswell was surprisingly quiet when we visited, but it was still picturesque and worth seeing. After checking pub websites for opening times, we chose the village for lunch. When the weather turned wet and windy, we looked for somewhere warm, but struggled to find an open pub serving food. Then we spotted the George Inn, which was open and had a car park sign saying food was served all day. It was quiet inside between 1 and 2, though most people there wanted a meal. The pub felt cold and had no atmosphere. Before we'd even bought a drink, we heard someone else being told at the bar that no food was available when they asked for menus. Like most of the other people there, we left and went to the local chippy across the road while waiting for a bus back to Sheffield. The website said food was served from 12 to 8, and the sign said all day. If the hours have changed, or food can't be served on a particular day, updating the website or taking the sign in would help. This isn't a good way to attract customers. I'm sure you may not be bothered, but we won't be back to the George Inn anytime soon. In difficult times for businesses, good service and word-of-mouth recommendations matter.
Our favourite pub in Tideswell, with a fair amount of room inside and friendly staff. On Sundays, food is served until 6pm. The two cask ales on offer were Old Speckled Hen and Theakston's Old Peculiar.
I've stayed before, though not this time, and it's always worth stopping in when you're in the area. It's a friendly pub with a great atmosphere, attentive staff, a good beer selection and freshly cooked food. The specials board changes, and I had the peri peri chicken burger, which was delicious. I'll be back.
I just finished watching The George Inn episodes of Four In A Bed. Richard and Mick came across as two of the most humble, honest, positive, generous and kind men I've seen on the programme. They're a real credit to the place, and the recent five-star reviews seem to show they're doing a great job. I'll stop in for food and drinks next time I'm in the area.
I was on my way from home in Manchester to Chesterfield to watch my favourite football team, Oldham Athletic, play Chesterfield FC in Sky Bet League 2. After a pint at The Anchor Inn, I stopped at The George Inn for another quick one before heading to Chesterfield FC stadium. The staff were polite and friendly, the bar and restaurant were spotless, the pint was cracking, and the location was beautiful. Service was great, and you can pay by cash or card. I post a lot of reviews on Google and always give my honest opinion on food, cleanliness, drinks, service, value, setting and atmosphere. I have over 46,000,000 views on Google alone. I've reviewed places near me and my wife in Manchester, and places we've visited together locally and abroad, as well as trips around the country to follow my beloved Oldham Athletic, day trips and holidays with my wife. I've reviewed all sorts of places and services, from restaurants, bars, beaches and beach clubs to taxis, airports, flights, beauty treatments, barbers, hotels, churches, basilicas, shooting ranges, hairdressers and football stadiums. My travels have taken me from Manchester to Split (Croatia), Hvar (Croatia), Supetar (Brac, Croatia), Rome (Italy), Vatican (Italy), Bezier Cap d'Agde (South of France), Montpellier (South of France), Podgorica (Montenegro), Budva (Montenegro), Tirana (Albania), Sarande (Albania), Ksamil (Albania), Krakow (Poland), Zakopane (Poland) and Santa Maria, Sal (Cape Verde).
